On a cold, brisk afternoon, our members gathered for the annual Easter Picnic
at Lake Louise in Weaverville. Despite the cold weather, our members
gathered bundled in winter gear, to come together and celebrate this important
holiday.

What better way to start the picnic than to dig in to all the wonderful food
that was brought to share. Plenty of hot dishes kept our members full, and
more importantly, warm! It was hard to believe that just a day before, we
had a snow storm!
Following our picnic, we moved on to some fun for the children. We
started with our Easter Egg Hunt. The park was full of colorful,
candy-filled eggs, provided by FAC-WNC. The objective was simple - get the
most eggs, and you win a prize. Our boy winner was Ian Miller, and our
girl winner was Krizel Wieter. Another special prize went to the one with
the least amount of eggs as well; this award went to Ian Brown.

We followed up the egg hunt with several fun games for our kids, and our
'kids at heart'. First, we had an Egg Relay, where our kids, divided into
two, make it three, teams. It was boys vs. girls, with our older guys
playing along too. Each person had to carry an egg balanced on a teaspoon,
go around and pass the egg to the next teammate. It was a close race, but
our girls won this round.

Next was our Wheelbarrow Race, divided into two groups, girls vs. boys.
This time, it was not completely limited to just kids. It was another
close one, but again, our girls swept this round and won!

What's a Filipino picnic without a 'Pipti-pipti' or 50/50 raffle? This
was won by Empie Higgins.
Finally, it was the much awaited 'Best Decorated Easter Egg' contest.
This year, our three judges, who are all talented artists, were Letty Armena,
Kirsten Higgins, and Brian Rodriguez. They chose as their winners, the
Nelson sisters. Tatiana won the 6 years and up category and Sara won 6
years and below.

Our Easter picnic was a hit. Thanks to all our members who came out to
join us for some fun. A special thank you to Marien and Emmanuel Lee, for
chairing this event, thank you to Marilou Marucut for organizing our games and
fun for the event, and thank you to Vangie and Leonard Buckner for reserving
Lake Louise Park for us.
